Laparoscopic Surgery

This is an operation to look inside the tummy with a camera (keyhole surgery).

Many operations can be performed in this way including treatment for endometriosis, ovarian cysts or ovarian removal, and hysterectomy. This approach leads to a shorter hospital stay, quicker recovery with less pain.

Hysteroscopy

This is a procedure to look inside the uterus with a camera. It can be performed either in the outpatient clinic or under a short general anesthetic as a day case. This approach can also be used to treat heavy periods (endometrial ablation), polyps and fibroids.

Hysterectomy

This is an operation to remove the uterus (womb). The cervix is also usually removed, and dependent on the symptoms and indication for surgery, the ovaries may also be removed. The procedure can be performed laparoscopically (keyhole), vaginally or though a cut in the tummy (abdominal).

Miss Woodward aims to perform most procedures either laparoscopically or vaginally allowing a quicker return to normal activities.

Colposcopy and LLETZ

A colposcopy is a procedure to examine the cervix (neck of the womb). It is used in the diagnosis and treatment of abnormal smears and bleeding.

LLETZ is the treatment to remove the abnormal cells. It usually takes 5-10 minutes and is generally performed using a local anaesthetic.
